Dan Bretl is a professional photographer based in Washington Heights in New York City. He specializes in shooting events, theatre, and athletics. He has years of experience photographing for colleges, covering lectures, academics, dance and theatre performances, student life, campus spaces, and all manner of athletics. Examples of this work can be seen in his collegiate portfolio. Other areas of Dan's photography are displayed in his general portfolio as well. If you would like to see more of a particular type of photography, or if you would like to speak to Dan about possible future employment, please do not hesitate to contact him.

Dan is part of a new generation of professional photographers, in that he has actually exclusively shot with digital SLR cameras his entire working life. He has an extensive range of Nikon equipment with a special focus on high-speed lenses with large apertures which are ideal for theatre and indoor athletics. His camera body of a Nikon D3 is one of the best in the business and allows him to shoot in any lighting situation and produce clean noise-free images. As a result of his years of digital work, as well as his academic background in computer science and his professional one in web design, Dan has developed efficient and powerful digital workflows and can not only deliver images quickly but can also develop sophisticated websites for the presentation of those images.

Dan received his undergraduate degree from Sarah Lawrence College, and his major and senior thesis were completed in Computer Science. During his education he developed a strong personal interest in writing computer programs which serve as artistic tools to create, manipulate, and composite digital images, and which bring together the academic areas of science and art (which are often tradionally thought of as rather disparate).
